Heritage : Forges de Pyrène

In the museum, with its collection of 6 500 tools, 120 crafts tell you their story, and all about the skills ans secrets of the craftsmen who practised them. In this timeless hamlet, a former forge was transformed into a tool-making factory in the 19th century. Today, this five ha site brings this past back to life. 

The tilt-hammer forge (a large forge hammer powered by a waterwheel)-a unique piece of machinery, designated Historic Monument in 1983-is the last one of its type still in activity in France.

You can see a blacksmith, clog-maker, antler comb-maker, farrier, baker, cutler and gold-washer at work in several lively workshops.

Opened throughout the year, closed certain days outside of school holidays.
