The Forges of Pyrene
The 5 ha of the museum site showcase 120 trades, most of which have disappeared, a collection of 6,500 tools, several workshops led by our mediators and an original show on daily life at the beginning of the last century.
In this timeless hamlet, the hammering of an old forge transformed into a cutting workshop (tool manufacturing) in the 19th century still resonates. A unique piece and classified as a Historic Monument in 1983, the hammer forge (large forge hammer operated by a hydraulic wheel) is the last one still in operation in France. This lively and enjoyable museum for young and old will welcome you for visits from 2 hours to the day. The workshops are covered and operate in all weathers.
