Montségur Castle
Standing on a rock "Pog" at an altitude of 1207 m, the castle of Montségur is the seat of the Cathars, followers of a dualist religion declared heretical by the pope in the 13th century. In 1243, an army of 10,000 men sent by the King of France and the Pope laid siege to the fortress. This siege lasted approximately 11 months, until its tragic outcome: the besieged surrendered on March 16, 1244 and there were more than 230 Cathars who, not wanting to deny their faith, climbed the stake.
The Montségur museum
The museum exhibits the discoveries of excavations on the castle site: balls, scissors, weapons, and everyday objects in the 13th century. It is also a permanent exhibition on Catharism in Ariège.

Foix Castle
The Foix Comtal Castle and its departmental museum remain an essential stopover throughout the Midi-Pyrénées region. Through the different rooms of the museum, you will discover this great Pyrenean lineage and the history of the county of Foix, the town and the Castle, Catharism but also to better understand daily life, the legends that we told each other or still the splendor of the court of counts in the Middle Ages.
